Our History
The need to establish BitterSweet Place-a chilren’s grief center and programming-grew out of the experience of a board member who was a middle school counselor. Through her work, she realized the need for local support for grieving children and their families. By exploring programs in the region (the nearest is in central Kansas City – 65 miles away) and attending children’s grief center conferences, she developed a vision of a program that would serve our area. With this leadership and the guidance and encouragement of other children’s grief centers, we have progressed from a group of passionate people with a vision to a viable center offering services in our community and surrounding areas. Our Board
Our board members represent a broad range of occupations and community interests. Many of our board members became involved because they have been personally touched by the issues we address-either through losses of their own, or through relationships with children suffering loss.
